“We were peering into this darkness, criss-crossed with voices, when the change took place the only real, great change I’ve ever happened to witness, and compared to it the rest is nothing.” — from The Complete Cosmicomics
Italo Calvino’s beloved cosmicomics cross planets and traverse galaxies, speed up time or slow it down to the particles of an instant. Through the eyes of an ageless guide named Qfwfq, Calvino explores natural phenomena and tells the story of the origins of the universe. Poignant, fantastical, and wise, these thirty-four dazzling stories — collected here in one definitive anthology — relate complex scientific and mathematical concepts to our everyday world. They are an indelible (and unfailingly delightful) literary achievement.
“Nimble and often hilarious . . . Trying to describe such a diverse and entertaining mix, I have to admit, just as Calvino does so often, that my words fail here, too. There’s no way I — or anyone, really — can muster enough of them to quite capture the magic of these stories . . . Read this book, please.” — Colin Dwyer, NPR

The Complete Cosmicomics Italo Calvino William Weaver Tim Parks Martin McLaughlin 9780544577879 Books Reviews
- Those questions crack me up! It's a book of short stories that fit absolutely no "normal" pattern. This is a classic book that will make you look at the world in a new way. I will never look at the moon or a nautilus or spaghetti without thinking of Calvino's references in this book.
- Guh, I want to love this so much, because Invisible Cities is the best book ever. And it starts out SOOOOOOO brilliant. Some of these stories are just mind blowingly intelligent and weird.
And yet others and just novellas of navel gazing, thousands of words just strung together in a meaningless fashion that it is almost physically painful to read, like a drunken blog post.
This is an uncut version of the book, which may be part of the problem. I get the feeling that some of these stories were cut as crap, and that would be an improvement. - I received this book today, and I can't wait to read it, but the bottom edge of the cover got ruined in shipping. It's all crinkled and folded and looks really ugly. I bought this book new for a reason...
- One of the great books of fiction I have read. Calvino has a voice and mind like no other. It made me laugh out loud in certain sections.
- good
- The great Calvino playful, wise, quietly moving.....
- Calvino takes the universe and makes it personal. Very cleaver. You get to meet an electron. You hear stories from before the earth was created. Great fun!
- Original, fascinating views of our cosmic home.
